WritingAcne Paper issue 20

To coincide with Acne Paper’s twentieth anniversary issue, Elise By Olsen delved into three unparalleled fashion magazines and editorships that majorly influenced its conception: Interview magazine with Bob Colacello at the helm, David Bailey’s Ritz, and Comme des Garçons’ Six – hereafter referred to as the Golden Trio. On newsstands in the golden age of paper publishing, the 1970s and 80s, and using print publication as a way of creating space and communities, the Golden Trio set a solid stamp, a strong signature, living long beyond the magazines’ mere existence. As a matter of fact, they have contributed to the evolution of printed media in fashion. How do we imagine print changing moving forward? Will the long form survive? And what can we learn from the past, in order to create a desirable future? The Golden Trio shows us the way: Bob Colacello generously sharing anecdotes from his era at Interview magazine in a longform interview, time-telling quotes from David Bailey in a Q&A about his Ritz magazine, and poetic interpretations of Comme des Garçons Six in a candid essay by Hilton Als. Stay golden!
